HELP ! 1967 letter discovered - LGBT

Hello,

My name is Damien LLaoneta, I'm French and I'm writing to you from Paris.

For a few years now (since I came out) I've been fascinated by LGBT history.

I discovered that, like me, collectors all over the world were looking for rare testimonies of queer history (photos, letters etc...).

These testimonials are extremely rare, as homosexual/queer relationships were forbidden at the time.

I'm writing to you today because I discovered and bought on eBay a letter discovered in Birmingham.

This letter was hidden behind a fireplace in a Victorian house. It was discovered during renovation work.

This letter, dated 25/10/1967 seems to be the testimony of a gay love between "des" (desmond?) and "Jae/Jay".

What do you think of this letter, do you think it would be useful to do some research to try to find the history of these people, and maybe be able to return this letter.

Respectful greetings

If it's of interest to you then I can't see it doing any harm if you want to look into it further.

Trying to return it may depend on what, if anything, you can discover.

Hello MWS, thank you for your message, these testimonies are very rare, I don't know who these two people are, nor if they are still alive. But for me, it's important to look. I'm not sure where to start, I have 3 first names, and an address in Birmingham (the house where this letter was discovered) but the current owner is not the one from 1967.

The letter is dated some 58 years ago, and so it is possible that those involved could still be alive. As this may be the case I personal would think those involved may wish the letter to remain private. You have to weigh up the "Right to be forgotten.”

hi damien and welcome...what an interesting letter and it does look like it was sent to someone called des (desmond) but is the recipient jae/jay or could it be jas (short for jasmine so a female)?

as a forum we have to be mindful of data protection and as these people could still be alive we dont like post personal details on open forum out of respect to them..

however i am quite happy to try and help you in your quest to maybe returning the letter but this can only be done via our private message system. if you are happy for me to do so i will send you a private message and maybe you could then give me the address in birmingham and i will see what i can find out for you..either way it would be nice to find out how the story ended..
