Heath Street, Birmingham

Sue Bolvary

Aussie daughter of Brummie parents
Good evening. Does anyone have an old map of back to back housing in Heath Street, Birmingham (particularly 2 Back 28 Heath Street). I have obtained my paternal grandfather's birth certificate. No father is stated on his birth certificate but they lived at that address. Thanks.

Hi Pedrocut, it's just the neverending search for British ancestors (we are in Australia). I knew my grandfather was illegitimate and have now obtained his birth certificate which doesn't give me further info. I was just curious where they lived. I found Heath Street in Google Maps but of course most of it is gone and the back to back have certainly gone. His name was Walter Henry Brownley born 1908.

We have found some long lost relatives though over the years and actually met up with a distant cousin who was visiting her daughters here. It was great to hear the accent!

The 1921 Census shows William Henry Brownley living with his grandmother (75) Frances Ellen Brownley at 134 Wiggin street.

On the 1911 Census it shows William (2) living with his mother Amy Brownley at his grandmother's house in Heath St. His father John Walter Broughton is also there as a boarder.

hi pedro i am a tad confused as sue said her grandad was walter henry brownley not william and he was illegitimate so how can john walter boughton who is down as married be his dad ? also looking at the 1911 amy could be walters mother but do you think his mother could also be elsie...both are single ladies ..i am having probs posting the 1911 but it says

head..francis ellen brownley 65 widow
daughter amy brownley 28..single
daughter elsie brownley 23..single
grandson walter henry brownley 2
boarder john walter boughton 31 married
boarder joseph henry barrows 22 single

add..2/28 heath st

Yes I should have written Walter Henry !

Somewhere I thought I had seen that Walter’s mother was Amy Brownley and his father John Walter Broughton. But where I got that from I cannot find !

True, Walter did marry, I wonder if his farther would be on the certificate ?

(Thanks Emma for the information above.)
As we got the birth certificate today and it confirmed there was no father in the picture I doubt he would have been at Walters wedding decades later. Might be one of those mysteries we never solve. At least he wasn't adopted out like some of my other relatives but with everyone deceased and no father/husband written down..how do you even find this persons name after so long?
