Can anyone tell me if Haywards sweet shop is listed -- I believe it was in Summer Lane.

There is a George Haywood, Confectioner at 106. Haywood & Hayward is often confused in Genealogy, maybe Kelly's got it wrong. I'll have another look too in case I have missed anything.

Edward Haywood 346 Summer Lane Shopkeeper
Kelly's Directory 1950
does not denote sweet shop though

George Haywood/Hayward is the one.
Thank you for looking.
You're right, the name varies from Haywood to Hayward in all sorts of records.

Ahh ok Samcat. The name attracted me straight away as Ive been doing some reseach for a friend over the past twelve months with the name hayward, he only said yesterday about the mix ups he's had on all sorts of paperwork. Pleased I could help in some small way.

Hi Samcat and Balrog, I have Haywards in my family - my gt.grandfather, Henry Blackham married Elizabeth Hayward January 1857 at St. Judes Church. I think her father was William born about 1826 a fancy bellows maker. I'm not sure where Elizabeth was in 1851. Henry and Elizabeth had quite a few children - Alfred born 1879 was the youngest and my g.father.
I would be interested to know if there is a connection.

Hi Sheri,

I have 2 'William Haywoods' but one was born 1815 & the other 1845 so it doesn't look like there is a connection.

Will let you know if anything turns up.

Hi Samcat, Thanks for the reply. I found a George Hayward on 1871 census. He was b.1853 b Aston at age 17 was a clerk in Kings Norton - his father William mother Charlotte - I don't even know if he's connected to my William. You are probably right and there is no connection between your Haywards and mine. Will let you know if I find one.

Hi Sheri,

Doesn't it make life difficult when everyone has the same name!.

On the 1871 census my William C Haywood was married to Emma & he was a silversmith.
'Next door' was his father George & wife Maria, all born B'ham

As you say, probably no connection but if we both keep looking...you never know!
