Hayes William

smtr

master brummie
Hi all

I wonder if someone can give me some advice or pointer where to go next?

William Hayes Born circa 1876/1877 England (no area known) Date take from Irish census and Scottish death certificate which doesn't include year or month of birth.
In the 1901 and 1911 Irish census' he gives his place of birth as England.
In 1899 he marries in Dublin
Around 1917/1918 he goes with his family to live in Glasgow and dies in 1951.

Now, I have requested a birth look up from the GRO and they have searched 1875, 1876 & 1877 for William Hayes, Father William Hayes, Mother Catherine Hayes (nee McCarthy). Today they informed me no record exists to match my information.

In 1901 he gives his age as 24 and in 1911 he gives his age as 33 and he is recorded as aged 74 on his death certificate. His name according to his son who registered the death was William Francis Hayes, but the Francis may have been a confirmation name as he was Catholic.

Help please!!! Where do I go next? :)

Re: William Hayes

There was a :

Re: William Hayes

Pomgolian
Thanks for looking but the 2 men aren't correct. I think I have exhausted all marriage lookups for them. They possibly married in Ireland.
Have just had another reply from the priority order at GRO as I gave them 1878 to look at but no luck!!! I think I may have to consider it may have been registered under a variation of HAYES ie HAYS, HEYS etc.

Thanks
Suzanne

Re: William Hayes

hi sue
please excuse me on this one question i knew of a billy hayes years ao whom was a family friend to the haynes
and is still remembereerd by my inlaws whom are irish [ the courtneys from ireland ] are my inlaws
and the william hayes [ billy as we called him was born in dublin i think ; but i will asked my old dutchess later
whom out of her family knows of the hayes family more than any of her family sibbling
my dutchess,s parents are dead ; and her brotherwhom was billys best mate and drinking partner from when they was kids also is dead he was murdered in weoly castle a couple of years ago
and i beleive this billy had a accident on the chester rd many years ago he as since died some years ago
but i think he was born in the 1900 and he could be the sibbling to the senior william ;
if you can asked catherine at the same time does she know of the courtneys from ireland
so i can clarify if this is the same family or not as i can possible fill in a starting point as to where to start for you
billy was years older than my wifes brother i met him loads of times over the years
so for starters if its possible to clarfy this question before i give input on this thread as billy used to talk about his family history to us and my wifes parents knew of his parents from back home so to speak ;
best wishes Astonian ;;

Re: William Hayes

Hi Astonian
Thanks for your interest.
All we know for certain is that William Hayes born around 1876/1877 in England went at some time to Dublin where he married in 1899 to a Catherine Kean(e). They then moved to Glasgow around 1917 where he died in 1951. We know nothing of his parents origins only their names, William Hayes and Catherine McCarthy. One of William Hayes & Catherine Keane's sons was a William Hayes also born in Dublin in 1907 and his brother, Joseph Hayes born 1923 in Glasgow, moved to Bham and married so I wonder if his brother William also moved to Bham.
Any help you can give is most welcome.
Thanks
Suzanne

Re: William Hayes

hi suzes
just come in and my son said that his mother my old dutchess as telephone to say she his going to be late geting back today so it will be later this evening when i get the chance to speak with her but i will come back to you one way or another of any info; they hold on this billy hayes ; i do not want to build your hopes up but the back of my mind
catherine is ringing in the back of my mind for some reason [ that name catherine ]
its a pity martin was not still with us ,still my wife and her oldest sister knew about the family
but to me reading between the lines your story line about dubln and the scotish connections it sounds we are on the right wave lengh , billy;[ william] was great friends and go back many years and there parents did ;
hayes , and the courtneys whom are well known and truly respected in ireland
and when we go over to ireland which is often they treat us like royalty the locals have told us how high
they are respected over there by them
any way suzes as i sid do not get your high hopes just yet when the old lady comes in i will try and extract from her memory of billy best wishes Astonian ;;
