Hi This lady name was recorded on my aunt death certificate as the person who was responsible for her buriel in 1997,and I wondered if anyone can tell me who she was and how her name came to be on the certificate, they both lived in Chadsmoor Cannock, my aunt died at Cannock Chase Hospital.
I know that my aunt had no children or a husband alive, and wondered if she was a part of the hospital or council.
Best Regards
Ann:rolleyes:

Re: Brenda Eileen Ann Hatton-Cannock Staffs

Hi & welcome Willis :) Most Hospitals have a "Registrar" or similar position
that deals with burials re Coroners/Undertakers etc so probably the Cannock Chase Hospital would have the records of your Aunts demise.
The Lady you have named may be the person above mentioned or neighbour, friend etc of your Aunt.
Best regards John Y

Re: Brenda Eileen Ann Hatton-Cannock Staffs

Ann, welcome to the forum, do you have a full copy of your aunts death certificate, if so it should give name, address and qualification or relationship of the informant. There are a number of people who can register a death, this list taken from The General Register Office site

If the person died in a house or hospital, the death can be registered by:
  • a relative
  • someone present at the death
  • an occupant of the house/official from the hospital, if that is where the death occurred
  • the person making the arrangements with the funeral directors
Deaths taking place anywhere else can be registered by:
  • a relative
  • someone present at the death
  • the person who found the body
  • the person in charge of the body
  • the person making the arrangements with the funeral directors
The majority of deaths are registered by a relative of the deceased. The registrar would normally allow one of the other people listed above to register the death only if there are no relatives available to do it.

Re: Brenda Eileen Ann Hatton-Cannock Staffs

Thanks I do have a copy and it gives Brenda name and address-but on qualification says- causing the body to be buried -which made me wonder if she was part of the hospital where my aunt died. I will have to get in touch with the hospital i think and ask- my next step i think.
many thanks
ann
