Hi
I am trying to trace my ancestors and with the help of someone off the forum have managed to trace my great grandfather who was George HArrison of 36 Angelina Street, Highgate.

He ran a fruit and veg shop at number 36 which is all I know at the moment.

As family members have passed on there are no other real details available at the moment. I know George had a daughter (Ivy) who was my grandmother and I suspect she was born between 1900 - 1920. I also know that Ivy had sisters and I believe they may have been called Rose and Lily.

Does anyone else have any info that could help me?

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

Hi Paul,
There are just too many Ivy Harrisons in the year range you have given...
so all I can suggest is that you go into
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
some of the Ivy's have second names - which may give you a clue to the right one, or you would need to order birth certs...
As you know the area they lived in, this will help you to shorten the list.

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

Hi
I managed to track down George Harrison on the 1911 census living at 36 Angelina Street, Aston.

George was married to Rose and in the 1911 census they had 6 children, George, Rose, Rose Lillian, William, Frederick and Dorothy.

I looked on the BMD for Ivy Harrison with a birth year of between 1910 & 1920 and there is one coming up in Aston, which you would think would be the right one but the DOB is 1910.

Cant understand why she wouldn't appear on the 1911 census though, any ideas?

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

there are also other Ivy's born in
Birmingham 1 quarter 1912 (two Ivy's)
one Birmingham 4Q 1913
one Birmingham 3Q 1916
one Birmingham 1Q 1918
and one in ton 2Q 1920.........................

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

Have just found out my grandmothers name was Ivy Irene Harrison

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

the only Ivy Irene harrison I can find on BMD is this:
3rd quarter 1907 Banbury (which could be northamptonshire, oxfordshire or warwickshire - depending where she was born) ref 3a 1146

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

there is a ivy i harrison jul-sep 1916 birmingham 6d 601

mothers maiden name locke

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

Yes I saw the Banbury one myself but cant be that one as she was born in 1907 which was too early. I have a copy of the 1911 Census for the family and Ivy does not appear on it so the 1916 one is a good possibility. My father was born in 1939 which means she would have been 23 which is also plausible. I remember she was around 72 when she died and I know that must have been between 1986 - 1990 from what I can remember.

What I dont know is what here mothers maiden name was. I know here mother was Rose Harrison and she was born in 1874.

The other thing I have just noticed on the copy of the census is that although they had six children in 1911 there were also five that had died.

All of the family were born in Birmingham.

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

in 1881 there is a rose "lock" daughter of george and maria born 1875 living in aston plus a brother and sisters.

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

Hi Shera
Thanks again for your help!! I am slowly getting better at this.
There is a good chance that it is the Rose Lock from Aston. The date is about right as I know she was 37 in 1911 according to the Census. I also know that she married George Harrison in 1894 if that helps narrow it down.

By 1911 they had produced 11 children but only 6 were surviving in 1911. I know one of the children that passed away was Nellie as she appears on the 1901 cesnus but not the 1911. I think she was born in 1895.

Thanks

Re: George Harrison, Angelina Street

Hi Linda
yes that matches up with some of the info I have.
I have three Rose Harrison's in the family Rose Harrison (nee Locke) who was married to George and they had two daughters Rose Harrison (born around 1896) and Rose Lilian Harrison (born around 1899).

That figures with Rose senior as I checked the electoral rolls in the library at the weekend and she dissapears after the 1931 one and only George Harrison is listed at the address. I know George died in 1957 but I traced his father back to be William Harrison (born 1858) and Charlotte Harrison (born 1856).

George and Rose also had a son called William George Harrison (born 1894) but he served in WW1 and was killed in FLanders 23/11/1915. Details of him are on the Commonwealth War Graves website and also Hall of Memory.

So your mothers first husband was called William Harrison (1905) and he is the one that drowned in 1937 with his son George???

Sorry for all the questions but I have had a nightmare tracing the family tree :-(

Hi i am looking for any relatives of my late Grandad Edward Harrison who was born 3/5/1904 stirchley birmingham and died i think 1967 before i was born i heard he had three sisters and four brothers we know absolutely nothing about his side of the family.Any help would be great thanks.Paul

theres just a chance that your edward harrison could be this one on the 1911 census although there are a couple of other possibilities.

living 8/453 bolton rd. small heath, bham

george albert harrison 37 barman b. bham (married 12 years and had 7 children all living)
mary ann harrison 38 b. banbury, warwickshire
gertrude beatrice harrison 11 b.bham
george albert harrison 10 b.bham
elsie mary harrison 8 b.bham
edward harrison 6 b.bham
leonard harrison 5 b.bham
charlie william harrison 3 b.bham
hilda harrison 2 mths b.bham

there could easily have been another child born after the census.

Purchasing the death and/or the birth cert would assist greatly with your research. The birth cert would give names and address of parents, including mother's maiden name, which would then assist in the search for siblings. The death cert should give informants name and address prior to death?
There is a tree on Ancestry giving his parents as George Albert Harrison and Mary Holmes and wife was Gladys Watson?
