Proud to be a Brummie !!
Hello,
I wish I could be more certain of the spelling of this family...but it changes
from census and certificates etc but here goes....The family lived in BARR St
on the 1851. By 1861 Jane and her 5 children are in UNETT St.

THOMAS "HALLUCK" was a slater from Cumberland ( He is on the 1851 census and then disappears ) His wife JANE nee PRESTON is from ABERFORD, YORKS. She appears as JANE "HOLLOCK" on the 1861 census.
She is the informant on the death cert of her daughter in 1882 as JANE HOLLICK. Her son WILLIAM seems to prefer the surname ""HOLLOCK" and I have found his family living in Yorkshire up to the 1901 census.

Does anyone have this family under any spelling in their tree ????

Thanks, Margaret.

Thomas Halluck

Hi Margaret,

This person must have decended from the same family as I belong to - re Hullock. To date I have 11 different varients for the spelling of the surname. The funniest is Ewelock or Youlock. But imagin the scribes of Cumberland and Westmoreland trying to understand dialect and you can see how my name came about - Hughlock.

If you would like to see if our research overlaps then contact me.

Best wishes David Hughlock Tewkesbury

I posted a reply and Margaret has not come back. Is any member of this site in touch with her or could an e-mail be forwarded to her directly.

Hi Margaret and those of interest,

There are 2 marriages that may have some significance:-
Thre is a marriage on freeBMD site in Dec 1/4 1842 at Leeds between THOMAS HULLAH and JANE UPTON PRESTON ref 23 396.
also a marriage in Sept 1/4 of 1847 in Birmingham ref 16 392 between THOMAS HUBBARD and JANE PRESTON

Many thanks

David Hughlock

Hello David,
I did actually send you a PM, but heard no more from you....HOWEVER...
we are now back in touch....

The Leeds marriage sounds interesting I will follow up on that one, the
Hubbard/Preston marriage was not relevant to my search.
Thanks for getting back in touch, I am still trying to find out when Thomas
H? died...also where Jane H? was on a couple of census's...but it is always
not knowing the correct spelling that is the problem.
Regards,
Margaret.

Hi Margaret,
We do have family links. E-mail me directly through the controler, can we work together on this link as I think it will help my research also. I believe I will already have the family yoy are lookin for if only we can identify which spelling it is.
