Hall Green Parade

The old postcard says from Green Road, but Green Road is much further back along the Stratford Road.

What is the significance of 1913 Hall Green Parade on the building which is now 1080 Stratford Road ?

Oops typo. Sorry.

Yes much further back, then I thought perhaps Green Road may have been the closest reference at that time. Yet again, it shows how misleading some early captions can be.

Amazing how the range of shops was well balanced from the 1915 Kelly's to the 1932 Kelly's : grocery, bakery, butchers, fruiterer and chemist. A fairly typical local shopping area at that time supplying most household needs and probably much the same into the 1950s before supermarkets took hold.

In the 1950s and early 60s I always regarded Hall Green Parade as running the whole length of continous shops and the odd bank from York Road to Cateswell Road. Included a Boots, Wimbushes, Skinners the butchers, a shop for buying replacement radio valves, Cookery Nook a cake and tea room plus some of the shops already mentioned e.g. Freeman, Hardy and Willis and Rushtons the Chemist. The Parade would only be on the right hand side if you were on a bus going into town. I went to school at York Road and knew the Parade well. Does anyone have a list of shops for around 1960? Many thanks.
