have you noticed not many new building burn down or is it me being cynical

Nah Pete, I think its just coincidence ( WOW, nearly got hit by a flying pig, then.) >:D

No its not you,I too have seen buildings that have been in the way of "progress" inexplicably burn down.

Locally there was the clock tower at princess Alice drive bagger's bush Sutton, this was a listed building but assess to the new trading estate was needed so it conveniently set it self on fire?
or am I being cynical also!

this lovely old building is right next door,I THINK THE FIRE ENGINES GOT THERE TOO EARLY,drive around the block a few times and then we can demolish the lot in one go

When did this latest "accidental" fire happen Dolly? Could it be just coincidence that it happened just as a massive redevelopment has started by St. Chad's Circus, a stone's throw away???

I wish I had a pound for every time I passed this lovely old building on the corner of Summer Lane. I read about the St.Chad's new development and it is too much of a coincidence really that there was a fire a H.B. Sale. It looks like out with the old and in with the new.

it started in the early hours of the 23rd jan,i know its sounds daft but while i was taking these pics i was talking to an old guy who was very upset about the fire and i mentioned the fire at belmont row and he said yes i know i watched you taking the pictures up there as well, maybe hes a secret arsonist but i remembered talking to him up there as well,THERE ,THAT CYNICAL SIDE OF ME CREEPING OUT AGAIN,think i will carry a fire extinguisher with me from now on just in case i bump into my NEW FRIEND :2funny:

 Careful Mr Dolly someone might get the wrong idea about you and your camra too :2funny:
...he said yes i know i watched you taking the pictures up there as well, maybe hes a secret arsonist...

The good old 5a Di...going along Summer Lane, always with lots to look at. Older buses were freezing in the winter. I always sat upstairs and nearly choked on the smoke when the bus was full. Remember getting in the traffic jams at Six Ways, before the changes, and it took forever to get up Alma Street. Last time I was in Brum I couldn't find where the buses went from and had to ask all over the place.

I NOTE WITH INTREST IN THE FIRE OF H.B SALES , WHAT YEAR WAS THAT ,IS IT JUST RECENT
AND WHAT WAS THE PREMISES NEXT DOOR TO IT ,
THE LAST TIME I WAS AROUND THAT CORNER OF BRUM IT WAS A CLOTHES SHOP ON THS CORNER ,
WHICH IS JUST YARDS FROM THAT PREMISES , YOU ARE ON ABOUT , AND SOLD MATERIALS
DOES ANYBODY KNOWS WHOM OWNED IT , THERE IS ALOT OF COININDENCES OVER THE LAST PERIOD OF TIME IN BRUM , I KNOW OF TWO FIRES IN BRUM ,WITH COININCIDENCES ,

astonian, the fire was in the early hours of yesterday morning, couple of doors down was a foreign currency exchange shop, the rest were derelict

I think the part of H B Sale became an Indian restaurant The Red Fort Looking at the fire Photos I dont think this part was involved. Fancy it happening so soon after the central fire station closed!!! Another Halfords ??

HI KEHN
JUST READ YOUR THREAD ABOUT THE FIRE AT HB SALE
AND I NOTICE YOU MENTIONED THAT PART OF THE SALE
WAS AN INDIAN RESTURANT , AM I RIGHT IN READING THAT THE NAME WAS
RED FORT RESTURANT , OR HAVE I MISTAKEN THAT , COULD YOU TELL ME WHEN THIS FIRE WAS AND ANY IDEA
OF THE NUMBER OF THE PROPERTY ,WAS IT SUMMER LANE , ? . yes there is a big question mark hanging over ,

Yes it was the Red Fort with the entrance in Constitution Hill opposite the YMCA.Try birmingham.gov web site and go to road works and Snow Hill and theres a good panoramic view of the area with the Sale building left middle alongside the blue mural

An internet search lists the firm as an engineering concern.
The advertising model shown is for a brand of cigarettes popular around the dates of WW1. Perhaps this is how they started out when they were founded in 1862.
