Hello,

Does anyone have an interest in the Grimshaw family living in and around Aston at the end of the 19th century?

John Grimshaw married Eliza Deakin in 1856 and they had the following children:

Alice Harriet (b 1857 and m Alfred Gough 1859)
George Henry (b 1859)
Albert James (b 1863 and m Mary Ann Smith 1894)
Maud Mary (b 1866 and m Henry Joseph Anson 1885)
Arthur (b 1871 and m Louisa Stanley 1895 - my great-grandparents)
Ernest (b 1875)
Wallace (b 1877 and m Annie Murphy 1904)

Albert James Grimshaw was murdered by John "Mad Jack" Sanders in the Golden Cross pub at Aston Cross (now O'Reilly's) in 1895. His wife posthumously gave birth to a son, also Albert James Grimshaw, and I'd be particularly interested in tracing any of his descendants.

Time this thread got another bump.

I've traced a marriage for Albert James Grimshaw Jr and Annie Eliza Nutting at St Mary's, Aston Brook on 25 December 1916. They subsequently had four children:

Albert J Grimshaw b 1923
Mary M Grimshaw b 1925
Dorothy M Grimshaw b 1927 d 1929
Gladys I Grimshaw b 1931

Hi Paul Goodchild,

Re your enquiry: Albert James Grimshaw was murdered by John "Mad Jack" Sanders in the Golden Cross pub at Aston Cross (now O'Reilly's) in 1895.
His wife posthumously gave birth to a son, also Albert James Grimshaw, and I'd be particularly interested in tracing any of his descendant.

I’ve been tracing my family history and I remember my grandfather mentioning an Albert James Grimshaw, his step-brother. Since delving into the archives, I have discovered that my Great Grandfather, Joseph Chapman married Mary Ann Grimshaw.
The 1911 Census of England & Wales lists Albert James Grimshaw 15 years old) along with his step-brothers Joseph, James (my grandfather), Thomas and Tomas Chapman.

Does this help at all?

Thanks Michael, that's interesting. I had traced Mary Ann's remarriage to Joseph Chapman but not her later children. I don't suppose you know anything about Albert Jr's children?
