Green Pem Montreal Canada

lesg128

Hi everyone.
Can anyone help me locate any information on a person called Pem (Pemilia) who had an Uncle James (Jim) Green.
She emigrated to Montreal Canada, I think it was sometime in the 1920,s. In an undated letter, which I have guestimated as being in the 1940's, she refers to someone called Bill which I believe could be her husband.James was my Grandfather and like the rest of our family always lived in the Saltley, Vauxhall and Duddeston districts.

Thanks from George 1st.:)

Many thanks for your swift reply. Unfortunately I have looked into this Pemilia and been advised this one, from Pontypridd died in the UK in 1982.
Thanks again for your interest. :)

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

That one above is the only 'Pemilia Green' in BMD. There is a 'Pemla Agnes E Green' born 2nd quarter 1878, Wokingham, Berkshire/Wiltshire.

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

Are you sure her surname was Green?

There is a Pem Ward's birth registered in the Sept 1902 qtr, Aston

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

Hi gee-em.
The answer to whether Pem is a Green, is uncertain, I am inclined to go along with your thoughts that she may be the Pem Ward that you have identified .In the letter she simply signs herself as Pem. She calls James uncle, but of course it may be her mother was his sister.
I need to follow this one up.
Sincere thanks :)

P.S. Have found a Pem Ward on Census 1911.
Born Sep.1903 Aston, niece of an Abigail Bennett . Summer Lane. Very promising. I must research the name Ward!!

Hi lesg128 are you sure that the Pem you are searching for is a Pemilia? Pem is a common abbreviated name for Emily or Emma.

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

Welcome lesg. And I wish you luck with your search. Hope you enjoy the rest of the forum. Barry.

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

I had an 'aunty' Pem (not sure who she was, I just used to visit her with my mum and was told that was her name). I can't find any reference to her in my family tree and often wondered what her 'real' first name was. I think she was a cousin of my nan so I'll check my tree again now I know it was short for Emily or Emma.

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

Hi sylviasayers.
Excellent lateral thinking!
I am reasonably certain that the name is Pem.
In her letter she signs herself as "Pem and Bill"
However I will certainly bear in mind your suggestion.
Thanks for your input.

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

Hi to sylviasayers and gee-em. From lesg128
I have not been asleep I have been doing intensive research on Pem.
First I must apologise to you both for doubting your word that Pem could be another name for Emma. You are correct!
I found her in Census 1911 in Aston. She had married and was listed as Emma Jane Herring. Following that I have since learned that she, her husband William James Herring and their young son, emigrated to Montreal Canada in 1911/1912. William joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force and went to fight in WW1. Emma returned to England (to be with family?) and when the war finished she returned to Montreal, presumably with William.I have info that she had 3 children and there are records of two of them getting married in the early forties.
Many thanks for your interest in my quest. I am just going to tell the rest of my family.

Re: Pem (Green) Montreal Canada

Lesg, so glad you found the elusive "Pem" as I said it is a common abbreviation for Emma and Emily, my dad had a sister Emily who was always known as Pemmie or Pem. Our ancestors certainly did not believe in making things easy for their descendants to trace them.

I couldn't find a set of grandparents in the 1911 census - I knew their names Albert and Catherine, but wasted money looking for them, then had the brainwave to look for Bert - lo and behold they were listed as Bert and Kate.
