Green Lane, Hall Green (Green Road)

It is a Grade 2 listed building called The Chalet

Early C19 cottage ornee in appearance but perhaps older in origin.
Pebbledashed; tile roof. One storey plus attic; three bays, that on the left set back a little and at a slight angle to the rest of the facade. Simple panelled door beneath a bargeboarded and tiled porch. Windows of two or three lights, all with leaded glazing and some beneath tiled canopies and with bargeboards. Bargeboards, too, at eaves level. In the roof, three tiled and gabled dormer windows, all also with leaded glazing and bargeboards.

Inside; the Minton tiles in the hall and late C19 stained glass windows.

That's great, thanks Janice. And I didn't expect The Chalet to still exist, let alone be listed, a bonus !

Have edited thread title.

I have walked past so many times as it is quite close to where I live. Never drive down though as just a bit before that image is a ford (River Cole) which floods very easily. Cars are always being washed under the footbrudge

So it also had/has a barn and an orangery, how lovely.

To me the name 'The Chalet' possibly suggests originally a country residence for weekend/holiday stays, maybe for a family in the city ?

From at least 1872 Arthur Henry Foster a solicitor and his family plus servants lived in The Chalet.
At that time it came under Worcestershire and is harder to trace but 1876 Kelly's has this entry

It is also listed as such in the 1901 census1901 census clip.jpg
The 1920 eroll has him having moved just up the road (still in Green Road) to The Moorlands and there is a new family in The Chalet.

It is not mentioned in the 1840 or 1855 Worcestershire directories either, though it was possibly not built then anyway

In the 1881 census it doesn't name it as "the Chalet" but Arthur is simply listed at Sarehole. But from directories we know it was The Chalet

Arthur Henry seems to stay there (assuming it is the same one) till the 1915 Kellys

Kellys 1915.jpg

Namewise it changes somewhat by 1921

And he is still listed at Moorlands in 1924
