I am trying to find the marriage of my paternal grandparents - John Henry Jones and Emily Greatrex. According to the 1911 census, they had been married 10 years which means they would have married in 1901 or thereabouts. Their ages were listed as 29 and 28 respectively. Again, according to the 1911 census, he was was born in Nechells and she was born in 'Birmingham' . At the time of my father's birth they were living in Railway View, Handsworth and on the 1911 census they were in Railway Terrace, Handsworth. In 1911 they had 4 children, Sidney, Harold, John and George (my father). I was always led to believe that Emily died as a result of a road accident when my father was 3, ( can't find a record of her death) but he always maintained that he had 2 sisters, Rose and Dora. The story went on with John Henry remarrying, I do know there was a step brother, Sidney (too young to be the one on the 1911 census). His second wife was Clara. John Henry died in 1945 and Clara in 1950. Both are buried in Handsworth Cemetery. I have a copy of John Henry's death certificate and the informant was P. Cooper, stepdaughter. I would be grateful for any help to solve this mystery.

Re: Jones/Greatrex

Hi there,
had a little dig in the freeBMD for you.
Only marriages for an Emily Greatrex in B'ham that I could find are these:

2Q 1903 Birmingham 6d 209

or (and I think this is probably the one you want)
ROSE Emily Greatrex 3Q 1900 Aston - but not the husband you want (showing as either Albert Scott or Alfred Banks)....
could it be Emily and John Henry weren't actually married?
