Great Barr Street and surrounding area

Hi all,

I have recently started looking into one of my 3rd great grandparents and the area they lived in. They lived on Great Barr street in 1888, my 3rd Great Grandfather was a Brickmaker. They also had family or people that affected the family in the surrounding areas, such as Waterly Lane.

I have tried looking up when Waterly lane was redeveloped and when the school (St Andrews on Bolton Street) closed. Also where the possible work location for Brickmakers was.

Hope someone can help.

The school appears on the 1893 map but is gone by 1905, replaced by houses and a bedstead works. There were a number of brick works, one right at the end of Bolton St, stretching between St Andrews's road and Kingston Road.

The replacement of the houses on Watery Lane was gradual, there are still some back to backs and courts on the 1966 map.
