Have you tried B'ham archives located in the central library? They have various registers from lots of different churches,St Martins is one of them buriels from 1554 to 1915. The library has a web site https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/Gener...869&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=70&EXPAND=164

If you do go to the library, the archives are only open on Thursday, Friday & Sat from 10 am to 5pm and to view any of the material you will need a CARN card. You get one of these from the archive department but you must have 2 forms of ID. If you have major problems getting there, if you can give me as much information as you have one the person you are looking for, them I will have a look for you next time I'm there. My kids are on school holidays so not sure when it will be, just let me know.

William Brough

Julie

Went to the library today and have had a look at St Martins records and can't find a William Brough. I have found the children that were buried there but not William. It does not give a grave reference so I can't tell if they are all together. Do you have William & Ann's marriage certificate? Is Elizabeth the last child of William's as I have her being christened at Bordsley in 1828 if this is the right child. I have checked the 1881 census and neither Ann or William are on it so would imagine that they died before 1881. I have 2 possibles for William 1859 March quarter and 1878 March quarter and the man is 81yrs old. If you can email me at p167duk@hotmail.com with all the info that you have on this family then I might be able to help a little more. It would be best if you could email direct as I don't get onto the forum as often as I would like.
Sorry I can't be of more help at the moment, but hope to be in the future.
Best wishes
Karen

William Brough

Not much proof that it is your William but A William Brough baptised St. martins 4th November 1758 parents William and Elizabeth.
We have been in touch before on another forum Julie.
Good luck in your search, Alberta(researching Staffordshire Broughs)

Hi Julie

Went to library today and found the marriage record of William and Ann. I took a copy, its not very good but you can make out most of it. Unfortunately the originals have been around a long time and they do get a bit moldy around the edges. It does not give an address and it is not like the marriage certificates that we recognise today but it does give the names of witnesses. William signed his own name but Ann made her mark so she was unable to write. Thomas Pearce signed his name and a Mary Pearce made her mark so they could be brother and sister or her parents.

I have also got a copy of Thomas (William & Ann's son) baptism record. This gives his name as Thomas Pearce Brough. Again the info is limited, no godparents are given neither is an address however it does say this after his mothers name "1/2 ** old". I am not sure if this means 1 or 2 years old or half a year old ie 6 months but the IGI does state 1 year but looking at the copy I'm not so sure.

That was all I had time to get at the moment but will have another look when I next go up. I may have to do bits at a time and let you have the info in dribs and drabs as it is heavy on the eyes with older records. I will take copies when I can so if you want to let me have an address, a works address will do if you don't want to put yours on the forum I will let you have them.

Will keep you updated with any findings.
Best wishes
Karen
