Grant Street

Grant Street was, from old maps, clearly built before 1866, but who was Grant? Or was it a reference to some allocation of funding?

In this 1957 photo taken by Phyliss Nicklin, she was probably showing us how Birmingham was coping with its increasing need for good housing and the replacement of old housing stock with new. These seem to be flats in a low-level building, in a design very much of its time.

Today, and 60+ years later, they've been modified. Probably to improve security, and appearance.
