Sorry i do not have a scanner at the moment so cannot upload photo's. Yet so want to praise my grandad and ask if anyone might have....just about known him.

Newspaper cutting from Evening Mail 1952 -

Except for the years of the first world war when he drove transport for the british army in france, Mr Thomas Lacey has worked for birmingham city transport since 1913.

The cutting goes on to say he drove the 27 bus and passengers gave him a gift. It also mentions the handicapped children who he transported to Little Green Lane School in Small Heath.

I was nine when he died so i presume nobody will remember him. Just wanted to hail his praise i guess.

Hi Jacqueline

sorry I don't have details of Thomas, but I do have quite a few Laceys in my family tree in that area. For example Albert b 1971, Francis b1862, Minnie b1892, George b1898, Nellie b1901, Herbert b1973, Ada b1869, Frederick b1867, William b1861 and Charles b1879.

Do you have any connection with these?

best wishes

Dave

The 27 route and the handicapped children's transport used the single deckers from the fleet. Here are examples of what he would have driven over the years.

My nans neighbour in Franchise street worked as a conductor on the buses all his working life. Gave us a free ride now and again. His name was Bernard Harding. Does anyone remember him?. Jean.
