George Gould was born in Hungerford, Berks to William Gould and wife Martha on 18-3-1813. By 1818 he and the family moved to B'ham where his dad grew up. Is ther anyway of finding out whatever happened to him. I have not been able to match to any of the Census' of later years.

Thanks everyone for an unbelievable job. What you are doing in Brummyland is not matched anywhere else in England.

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

Hi Gouldy

Did George have a brother named Henry?

There is a Henry Gould in the 1861 census born 1817 Hungerford living at Lower Essex Street, Birmingham with a wife Elizabeth and children Henry, William, Elizabeth and Matilda.

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

Good old G-g-grandad Henry. He's mine along with siblings George 18-4-1813, William 30-9-1809, James 1822 and sisters Harriet, Eliza, Elizabeth, Martha and Emma. I guess the girls are going to be harder to find due to marriages. So yes George had brothers and they all lived in B'ham.
Thanks Suzanne - Graham

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

Hi Gouldy

There is a tree on Ancestry which may well help you - unless you know of it already. It's owned by Stephen Gould.

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

Stephen is a distant cousin of mine. We had collaborated many times, even had a visit from him which was great, but haven't heard from him in a while.

I thought if I received any new info I would let him know, of course. Last I heard, he didn't have these answers anyway.
Thanks GG

Ok. I am happy to keep searching - never know a fresh pair of eyes may help.

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

and I/we certainly appreciate it. :)

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

Hi Gouldy, the is a Henry Gould, 25 a Policeman, living at Crooked Lane Police Section House on the 1841 Census.

I also found a William Goold (sic) 35. wife Sarah 30 son John 10, living in Bell Barn Road St Thomas district, Birmingham. The enumerator says Sarah and John both born in Birmingham but William got a tick.

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

Hi Di Poppitt, thanks for that. I liked the story of a Policeman at Crooked Lane, but he's not mine.
Now William is a different story. 35 at the 1841 Census gives us the correct birth year.

I wonder who William's parents are listed as, that would prove it was him.
Pardon my thickness, but what did you mean 'William got a tick'?

I also have a line of Worralls.
Emma Worrall b: 1845 d: 6-1-1928 AUS married Henry Gould m: 11-6-1871 Birmingham

Cheers Gouldy

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

I wonder how much stick they took being in Crooked Lane, knowing the Brummy waggs it would have been relentless.:)

The 1841 census is not the best for giving too much detailed info, so the born in county column is just yes or no. William's wife and son had a Y for yes born Warwickshire, William's was ticked. No one else was ticked, so maybe the enumerator didn't ask the question and then took a guess. I'll have a look at the 1851 and see if I can find him.

Thank you for the Worral info, as yet I haven't found any born in Oz, but I'll keep Emma in mind.

Re: Whatever Happened To George Gould?

My Worrall was born around B'ham and married there also. talk soon. gg
