goodman st

I think this building has gone Lyn, in fact the whole street seems to have been replaced by later buildings. But there's an interesting Victorian, building (industrial/commercial) on that road at the junction with King Edward Street. Has a similar look to the one you've posted. It's been converted into flats. Have no idea what the building was, but it's pretty substantial and has some interesting features. Anyone know what it once was ? if my memory serves me correct and looking at the picture from the correct angle and considering where the pic was taken from meaning the angle again
that particular building you are refereing to was hippkisses limited
and it half the street they was a brass founder and fancy goods merchants of high glass with those dark blue bowls and sugar bowls
and the factory oppersite facing was willmotts and breedon limited and at the bottom of the street was the ice scateing rink of summer hill
a friend of my brotheres was barry hopkings whom joined the army and left there he lived around the corner in st marks street
we lived in king edwards rd best wishes astonian

That's a lot of information Astonian, thank you very much. We are building up a good picture of the whole street. Viv.

Hi viv
what i forgot to mention was that there was a park right next to hipkiss,s limited
when you turned into goodman street on the corner of the street which was kingedwards rd
there was a park it was called the wreck and it was basicicaly a play ground for all the kids to play foot ball
and the usal ammentites and there was an old park keeper with a wooden hutand he was a little large man whom like to drink on duty rather watching the kids and he was always intocicated and one day he drank bleach for whisky
i have mentioned this on a previous thread about the parkie but that was right next door to hipkississ
the park iron railing would go right up to there building which was many . Many years old
i cannot say how therebuilding was built but it certainly was history
all the best alan ; astonian
