Goode st hockley

Lyn, I would like to see some myself, I have been looking for ages. The only ones I have are of the top end by Scribbans (corner of Goode St/Lodge Rd) The first one is behind the tram and the second is on the left of the tram

Lyn, I showed my friend the map you posted, he thinks something does'nt quite look right. How old is that map?

think its 1889 terry...like i said i know someone who lived at the back of the pub..what does your friend think is wrong with it..

We both went to All Saints school in the 50's and we both walked that way to school every day, I don't remember a pub and he reckons there has'nt been a pub there as long as he has lived there and thats all his life. If its a 1889 map then there could well have been a pub. I can only remember that street with Scribbans the bakery taking up half of it. When did your friend live there?

easily explained terry..the person i know who lived behind the pub is into his 80s so would remember it..according to kellys the leopard pub was there in 1939 but gone by 1943

on the 1918 map the buildings on the right hand side of the st have gone...

on the 1955 map the bakery is marked...

im attaching both maps for you ..many thanks to mike for them...

ps maybe your friend would like to join the forum and tell us of his memories..

Lynn I wonder if there is any connection to what Astonian was saying about Leopold Street being by All Saints Road on a thread about Hockley Train Station. Like Terry I walked up All Saints to school most days and could never a remember a street (nor could others) named Leopold. It seems such a coincidence with that name.
