Godson Spyers

[godson's cottage]

Hi I live in an old cottage in Tasmania, Australia. the cottage was built by Spyers Godson in the mid 1830's and i am trying to find out more about him.
I believe he came from the Birmingham area in about 1827 but I cannot find out what happened to him after about 1838
Any information about him befoe he came to Tasmania would be greatly appreciated and I would love to know what became of him. i dont know if he returned to England or went elsewhere

there are census details for a spyers godson 1871, 1881 and 1891

in 1871 he was living newcastle st. burslem, stoke on trent.
spyers godson 66 draper and hosier b. long lawford warwickshire
mary. wife 58 b. middlesex

in 1881 same address
spyers godson 76 general dealer b. long lawford
mary 70 b. clerkenwell

in 1891 living in coventry
spyers godson 86 widower lives on his own means b. long lawford

his death is 1898 apr-jun coventry aged 94yrs. i hope its the right person

the marriage could be in 1858 to mary grimshaw in manchester

There is the birth of another Spyers godson 1779 Brailes Warks.
There is a marriage of Spyers Godson 6th October 1834 ~Tasmania but this would make him 54/55 when he married,Lydia Chandler.

on igi the marriage i mentioned was spyers godson to mary grimshaw on 8th oct 1858 at cathedral, manchester.

theres also a christening on igi - spyers godson christened 28th april 1805 at newbold on avon, warwick. parents john spyers godson and betsy crofts

john spyers godson and betsy crofts were married 4 jan 1803 at newbold on avon.

im not sure if there were two spyers godson as ive found these two marriages. marriage of spyers godson to ann bushell at st. martins in bham on 26th sep 1828, then marriage of spyers godson to elizabeth enoch at st. martins in bham on 9th apr 1833.

checked them on my st. martins cd and both list spyers godson as bachelor!
