Getting an 1815 marriage record? How?

I have a William Brittle born 18th Nov. 1817, Birmingham. Parents Joseph & Elizabeth Brittle. I have a marriage of Joseph Brittle & Elizabeth Watson on 12th Oct. 1815 at Edgbaston, Warwickshire. How do I get hold of a copy of that marriage entry so I can check for further information? Thanks in anticipation. Jim

Hello Jim, there will not be very much info that will be of help on a marriage cert of this early date, just whether the couple were single or widowed & the names of the witnesses. With any luck though, someone on this site will have access to the registers ( but do you know which Church the marriage took place in ?)

Happy Hunting,
Margaret.

If you have Ancestry you might be able to find it on there, they don't have all the records, but I found some of mine yesterday at Mancetter, Warwickshire. Failing that, if you have a local LDS, they will probably have the film, and you can go to their family history centre to see it. You do have to pay but I believe it is not a great deal.

The films are in Birmingham central library, but they do charge quite a bit for sending a copy out to you, I think you have to pay for a full half-hour.

The only extra information you will get is the occupation of the groom and the witnesses, there won't be a full address before 1837 (and not always then).

I hope this is of some help to you.

Thanks for getting back to me, I am hoping that there will be witnesses on there to add to the information I have and maybe provide a clue. I don't know which church they were married in but I believe their children were christened at St Phillips and St Martin. My niece is at Birmingham Uni and if I have specific information telling her where to go to get the info... she may be willing to help me. Here are the 'possible' children of Joseph & Elizabeth although 2 can be discounted as their dates are too close to Mary's. Joseph was christened at St Phillips in 1789 (I believe).

Possible family of Joseph & Elizabeth Brittle of Birmingham (from Christenings):
1816 15 April Christening Eliza BRITTLE born 2 Nov. 1815 at St Phillips Birmingham ??? (too close to Mary's birth)
1816 15 April Christening Edna BRITTLE born 9 Dec. 1815 at St Phillips Birmingham ??? (too close to Mary's birth)
1821 27 Nov. Christening HARRIET BRITTLE born 28 Oct 1819 at St Phillips Birmingham
1822 3 Sept. Christening Henry BRITTLE born 15 Nov. 1821 at St Martin Birmingham
1822 3 Sept. Christening WILLIAM BRITTLE born 18 Nov. 1817 at St Martin Birmingham
1823 26 Oct. Christening MARY BRITTLE born 4 Oct. 1815 at Bordesley Warwick

Both Christened St Martins 3rd September 1822
William Brittle born 18th Nov 1817 Parents Joseph and Elizabeth living Moores Row father's occupation Grinder
Henry Brittle born 15th Nov 1821 - details as above
Just looking to see if I can find anything else :peaceful:

Marriage 12th Oct 1815 St Phillips
Joseph Brittle & Elizabeth Wooton. Witnesses George Smith & John Merrick

Many thanks Pollypops... I am now getting a bit of flesh on the bones of the bare statistics I started with. I shall put this together with the other information I have and see where to go to next. Jim

Mary Brittle, the sister of William, Henry & Harriet was born in 1824 (not 1814) and would possibly have been christened at St Martins, are there any records? Parents Joseph & Elizabeth Brittle.

I also have a query regarding Joseph's siblings... this is the possible family group but do they all have the same details on their records?
