Hi, I'm trying to date a painting I've just bought and found your useful Forum, hopefully someone might be able to help. The painting has a label on the reverse from Geo. L. Brown, Fine Art Dealer and Picture Frame Maker, 13 Union Passage, Birmingham. Would anyone know where I could find the dates that this company was located at Union Passage? Thanks!

City And Midland Arcades

I like this photo because it seems to contradict the image I have of a typical arcade. I always imagine arcades as one row of small shops like the Great Western or Piccadilly. But this view shows it branching off into another arcade. In fact you could almost call it a small 19th century 'mall'...

Not much help I'm afraid. The firm was not there in the 1913 Kellys, but was at no 13 in the 1915 edition and the 1924 edition,. By the time of the 1932 edition they had moved to Livery St. The dates are publication dates and might refer to the year before
 
Thanks, very interesting and yes helpful. From the style of painting I would think 1914 -23 would be about right. Thanks for help.
