Gas mask bag queery ?

Eric 63

Older by the day Brummie.
Hello everybody, First i love this site and reading your posts, i have learnt so much, thank you all. I have collected millitary and wartime memorbillia for some years now and i wonder if any of you old soldiers can tell me, what purpose did the cord that is stitched in to the seam of my gas mask bag have ? I guessed that it attached to the mask so that they should never part company, but is this correct ?

I'm surprised no one has answered this one sooner !

The string should be coiled up and sit in a little pocket, (that can be found where the cord is stiched to the case) when not in use Eric.

The gas mask, in its case, sits on your chest with the strap around the back of your neck. The cord goes around your back and ties on to the bag to keep it still.
