They lived at 5 Whitby Terrace st andrews rd small heath, 1890s onwards. Grandad George was a Brass caster.
This picture was taken outside a pub know locally as The Chain, any info appreciated
Thank you ☺

welcome tmb73...i take it you want to find out more about the pub as well as the family...this could be quite a mystery unless someone knows what the proper name of the pub was although i would guess it was close to where your gt grandad lived...thats a smashing photo but because of the creases on it could i suggest that you post it in our picture restoration section its towards the bottom of the main page as we have some very clever members on here who would be only too happy to have a go at tidying it up for you...

Hi Lyn,
Thank you for your reply ☺
I've seen a few posts that mention The Coachsmiths Arms as the name but I can't seem to find a decent picture, and as you can see there's not much of the pub on the picture although I can make out a window and door behind.
I know it may sound daft but I'm trying to find out if the chap at the front with the crease running through his face is my great uncle Albert - I found a description of him in his army records which said he was red haired with fair skin(the chap at the front looks like he could have pale skin + he has those almost invisible eyebrows that redheads have sometimes? )
Anyway sorry to waffle but it's driving me nuts!
Thanks again
Tina

tina dont worry about the waffle i do it all the time when i am on one lol..but i know what you mean..i have a photo of a group of army chaps ww1...i was told that the man on the left is my grandad wood but the problem is i have no one left now to confirm it..i did not know him as he died in 1938.....back to your pub..are you sure that it was called the coach and horses if so do you know where it was as our pub expert phil may have a photo...i was wondering why the nick name the chain...thought it may have been close to a chain makers..

Ha ha yes most of the Fulwells had big families, my Great Grandad John Fulwell was one of 13. I've not come across a Beryl Fulwell in my search as yet but we are probably related somewhere along the line, a whole tribe descended on Aston from Allesley in warwickshire circa 1830-40 and settled in Smallheath :) first at Adam st, then Whitby Terrace, St Andrews Rd, and Old Know road.

hi Tmb73 one of our members has had a go at tidying up your photo...very difficult with the creases down the faces but there is an improvement..

Hi Lyn, hey that looks great! The crease has gone from poor uncle Alberts face
Could you pass my thanks on to the person who worked their magic please? X
