RobertS

master brummie
Any information very gratefully received.

Looking for any information Lilian Froggatt of 24 Hickman Road Sparkbrook in the 1940's early 1950's. Lil had a partner Vern, who ran a tobacconists in Ladywood possibly in the 1920/30's. Not sure if they were married.

Mrs Lilian Froggatt was still living at that address in 1965 but had left there before 1973. Hope this is of some help to you.

Very Kind bren

Very kind of you to do the research. That would make her born in 1908. I will have a look for the birth. I'm struggling with the age. I would have expected her to be 15+ years older. She used to take me to the Lickeys on the bus and she was too old to pay and I was to young!

I suppose she could have used 'different' ages but Lil had sisters who lived opposite in Hickman Road so I would imagine there would still be people around who knew her real age when her death was reported.

I have been told she had a daughter who inherited the house after her death. I wonder? If I get the birth certificate that will give me a clue.

I am still hoping there might still be someone out there who knew her.

Once again thanks.

Hi RobertS

These are the birth details from 1908 --

Lilian May Froggatt 3rd qtr 1908 Belper 7b 711

That would make her born in 1908. I will have a look for the birth. I'm struggling with the age. I would have expected her to be 15+ years older.

Of course, not having a lot of info about her we could be wrong, she might have just left the area in the time period we are looking at and died later, as i said before i only looked at the years from 1965 to 1973 inclusive.

Lilian Froggatt

Hi Robert
I have access to a large family tree for Froggatts on genes reunited
There are 4 Lilians
Lilian Froggatt born 1906 m Clarence L Crump
Lilian C Froggatt born 1922 m to Henry Hughes
Lilian Kathleen Froggatt born 1902 m Charles Evans
The other was born in 1898 but died age 5

What about Lily Froggatt born King's Norton Reg District Jan-Mar 1907 Vol 6c page 1907. The King Norton District covered Edgbaston and Smethwick, but I think Ladywood was Birmingham

I don't know of any Vernon Froggatts in Birmingham, but I do know of 2 born in Sheffield in the 1890s.

Froggatt could be her married name.

Will watch the thread for a while

according to Kelly's 1969 / 70 she was still living at 24 Hickman Road Sparbrook this Kelly's would have been compiled most probably in 1968
checked for residents same year Mrs L Froggatt 24 Hickman Road

Thanks

Thanks Davidfall and John.

I still have a problem with ages. Lil was touring the continent with her partner 'Vern' around 1920-24. (She kept the revolver bought for the trip until 1958!) Lil took me to the Lickeys when I was 4/5/6 so that would be around 1953/4/5 and she didn't have to pay the fare, so I am assuming she would be 60+ making her birth 1893 or before (unless she lied to the driver). I was a very young child so judging age was difficult although she seemed very much older than my parents who were born in 1914 and 1918.

Another complication is that my Mother said she thought Lil had been married 'before Vern' and that they probably didn't marry. There may have even been a child who went to a relative.

It is possible that Froggatt was her born name, the name of a first husband or Vern's name. The 'Mrs' could have crept in anywhere.

The Kelly's entry leads me closer to her death date (never thought of using Kelly's for householders). Back to look for a will again. Will also try and look a genes reunited for a Vernon Froggatt, long shot but.

Thanks again

Sorry Robert I can't help with your search, but am intrigued what Lil and Vern were doing touring the continent with a revolver. Please tell us more.

Guess it was part of the standard travelling kit at the time for a gentleman to defend the honour of his lady companion. I only know they travelled by early car through fance and Italy.
