Free BMD Marriages

For those that look for marriages on FreeBmd you will know that when you have found who you are looking for you then click the page number and usualy you get a list of names, two brides and two grooms. Sometimes only three names pop up, the partner you was expecting to find is missing, don't you just hate that. This has worked for me twice, it doesn't work everytime but is worth checking, for some unknown reason the spouse had been entered on the previous or next page. To find out if this has happened try this --

Just under the list of names you will find in the centre

Found one partner in a marriage but now looking for the spouse?

Do as it says, when the new page opens, scroll down and find

You can perform a spouse search yourself using the information here

Click "here" and another page opens, scroll down

Use the Find Page Entries facility as described

Click the highlighted FPE, now a new search page opens, highlight Marriages, select year and quarter and put in the volume number ie 6d for Brum, dont make any selection in the District box, click find. What comes up now is every page for the details you entered, scroll down to the page number you first found and next to it will be how many are on the page, we only had three so look at the page before and after especially if one says five, it might just be your missing spouse.

I know this sounds a bit long winded but it is only a few clicks really, why this sometimes happens i don't know and this method doesn't work every time but if it only works once for you it's worth it and you can sit there going YESSSSS LOL.

Bren, that is a great tip and a method I too have used . As you say, it does not always work, however very satisfying when it does. :great:

By the way Di I found my Granddad, he married both times in Brum after all and not Cheshire where he was born.
I'm sure our 'OLDS" did it just to make us work harder to find them :D

Thanks Bren I must admit I hadn't thought of that. I have had it a couple of times where the other partener is missing. I have taken a chance and asked for the certificate only if the parteners name is the one i'm after. I will try your suggestion in future thanks

What Ive found with FBMD is that once Ive found a marrage using the method suggested is that I leave a post script saying who that person married and also for the other party so they match up, every little helps.

Many thanks for that tip, I'll try that. Often I have an odd number of brides and grooms on the record page and, as you say, it's so frustratin, especially if you don't know what the 'other half' was called.

Hello all,
Anyone give me a clue as to where to start looking for Florence May Wilson born 1907 Longford, Coventry and died Dudley Road Hospital about 1980.
Many thanks JK.

She can be found on Free BMD for the birth:

Births December Quarter 1906
Wilson Florence May Coventry 6d 527

FreeBMD have not indexed the deaths for the time frame you are interested in as yet and will probably be some time getting there.

The images are on Ancestry but require a trawl through each relevant page for each quarter until she is found. If she died between 1984 and 2005 those entries are indexed by name on Ancestry and would be easy to locate.
