I wonder if SKS would mind looking up any of the trade directories between 1881 & 1900 for me please? I am looking for more information on the die sinking, stamping and piercing business of Frederick Jenkins who lived at Bickenhill House, Warwick Road/Old Road, Solihull. The 1881 census states he employed 14 men, 14 boys and 22 women and I am wondering whether the business was run from home or elsewhere? I've tried looking up on the Historial Directories site but it doesn't appear to be working unfortunately.

Many thanks!

Bickenhill House comes under Olton and is in the Warwickshire Kellys. F rederick Jenkins is listed in the as a private resident. No commercial use is mentioned.
The most likely place for the business i would think would be Birmingham. However only engineering business under frederick Jenkins is

1892, 1896 and 1904
Jenkins Frederick; gun percussioner, 3 Court, Whittall st

There is one entry

Jenkins Henry & Sons, die sinkers, press tool makers, medallists &c. Unity works, Vittoria street

which struck me. as similar to what you are looking for, except for the christian name. he is at no 62 vittoria st in 1880 and then moves, at first un-numbered , then 40, then after expansion 36-46. the firm was established in 1830, and the building (in2002) still stands . There is some more information on the building in "the birmingham jewellery quarter.", pub by English Heritage..A picture is at https://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=217715&mode=quick
