Football Families

Hi All,

I am a bit fed up with the Man Utd v Villa thread so thought I would introduce this one. I have supported Blues for over 70 years. I married an Aston girl whose father had claret and blue blood. My son is a Blues supporter but my eldest daughters husband is a Villa season ticket holder. My 12 year old grandson, bless him, is a Stockport County supporter. They lost 6-0 at home last weekend and have been relegated to the lowest division but he still loves them and wears their shirt with pride. He lives in Stockport, of course..My cousin is a Coventry City season ticket holder together with his grandson.

At family gatherings we do not fight or bash each other over the head. We certainly do not hate each other but have a lot of friendly banter. I am sure that most families are like ours. Blues and Villa supporters work side by side in factories and offices. They drink together in pubs and those in the armed forces even fight side by side.

Why then do a miniority spoil it and go on the rampage at the mere mention of a rival team?

Chris,
Once again you are 100% right. The Villa & Man United thread as become a bore,I have stopped looking.
But then, rugby is my prefered sport ,rugby fans all sit together and mix in the pubs, with never any bother.
Good luck to all the midland clubs,it makes the game more interesting, with them all in the premiership.

My Grandad was Villa, 2 of my Uncles were Villa, one of my Cousins was Villa, one of his daughters is Villa. His son and other daughter are Bluenoses. Both my son and daughter are also Bluenoses. I just can't get my head around Brummies (or whoever) supporting Man U, Liverpool etc. I'd rather they even supported Villa. At least it's a local team!

David,
Perhaps going a little way to explaining the team you support, could be,who your dad supported,I was born and grew up within the sound of the roar from Villa Park,so, I supported them, and so does my youngest son, even though he left Brum when he was a few months old. However, my eldest son,is an Everton supporter ,the reason being, he was a fan of the late great Alan Ball during his Everton day's,and used to recieve letters of encouragment from him.

Ray, my Dad preferred the Blues (although not a fanatic like some!) and used to take me as a kid and send me down over mens' shoulders to the front. I was brought up in Bromford Lane opposite the Valour so it was probably more of a Villa area if anything.
