FLORAS (FLORIS or FLOWERS?), Daniel and Emanuel Henry

Tony Cocks

Parkhurst Boy
Hello,

Can anyone throw light on these brothers please?

Daniel born 1846 in Washington, Birmingham, and Emanuel Henry born 1848 in Liverpool. The father, Emanuel H. Floris, according to the 1861 England Census was born in Calcutta. Both brothers appear to have been convicts, Emanuel Henry 2 years penal servitude from 07/01/1862 and Daniel 3 years penal servitude from 06/07/1863.

I am fairly confused about their life histories and any help, assistance, direction to other links would be more than welcome.

For the moment,

Tony Cocks

Hi Tony & welcome

Hi Tony,

Respecting Daniel, to my knowledge, there is not and never has been a Birmingham suburb named Washington I am sorry that I cannot be more helpful.

Thank you both,

My apologies.......I had my doubts about the "Washington" reference which came from the Ancestry transcript of the 1861 England Census but, now, having looked at the original source document it should have read "Warwickshire". Will I never learn not to accept transcribed details without viewing the source!!!

Thank you ladylinda,

I think we probably have to accept there may be some relationship given that Edmond J. FLORIS was born in the East Indies and Emanuel H. FLORIS in Calcutta. And, of course, there is Daniel as a common denominator in both the 1851 and 1861 Census who, I believe from research a moment ago, may have died in the 2nd quarter of 1871 in Birmngham (FreeBMD).

It is all very complicated and I may need the help of a darkened room shortly!!!

For now,

Tony Cocks

Oh Tony take it from me....you will need a darkened room shortly!!!! And the longer you spend doing your tree the darker the room needs to be!!!

Sarah Floris baptised St Chads Birmingham 6th March 1859
parents Emanuel Floris ,Martha Greaves Floris.
Sarah must have died shortly after as her death is registed March 1859
Martha Greaves Floris burial St Bartholomews 9th March 1859.

Also of interest may be the death certificate of Emanuel Henry Flars, Birmingham 1864.

Thanks Alberta for the details that verify some of the information I have already gleaned.

Sadly, however, tracing the two supposed brothers is no further advanced, even using the possible patronym "FLARS". Incidentally, my research is directed towards tracing their lives to confirm or otherwise if they re-offended and how successful they may have been........not strictly "family tree" fossicking.

For the moment,

Tony
