Hello, I’m trying to find out some information on my Great uncle who lived in Birmingham near Fordrough. His name was William (Billy) McLaughlin. He was a fireman in the 40’s/50’s in Birmingham I believe, throughout the war, unsure where exactly. He died before I was born in 1962 in an accident. He had a son who died also. I’m just wondering if there is a way I can find information from Birmingham fire station history to see a photo of him in his uniform. No other family that I know of. I have looked through some of the threads and love the photos from the fire stations during that time.
I have contact Birmingham archive and WMFS heritage group.

Thank you. I’m going to order his marriage certificate and son’s birth certificate so I’m hoping it will have his occupation details on there.

So I have his marriage certificate and it says he was in the NFS. I believe the National Fire Service was a specialist war fire service. I think it may have ended not long after the war. I have his fireman number but no place of work. Does anyone know if their were specific NFS stations around Birmingham? I hope I’m posting this in right area etc. sorry if not. Thanks in advance.
 
The NFS was the fire brigade during WW2, It was national. Most likely all Birmingham stations were NFS ones. This lasted until 1947 with the re-organisation of British fire services.
