Fire Brigade Medals.

I have two silver medals that were awarded to a "fireman J Rowlands" one is dated 1926 and is awarded for long service, the other is dated 1931, and has two bars, one for 5 years service and one for 20 years service. Does anyone know anything about these medals?

Looking forward to seeing these medal Barrie and as John says someone on this forum is bound to know about their background history, etc. If not you can always send the photos to the amazing Firmin's of Newtown Row....they will know for sure. https://www.firmin.co.uk/

Here are the medals, I don't know if the photo's are good enough, but it was the best I could do.

More firefighters medals

After my grandfather Alfred THACKER died in the late 60's my mother gave me his medal which he had apparently got as a fireman in Brum during WWII. The madal has a purple ribbon and is embossed with the insignia of the National Fire Brigade Union. The reverse is inscribed with 'Long Service' and it looks like there is a space for a name but there is no further inscription.

She also gave me what appears to be some sort of silver medallion which looks like it was on a chain a some point. All the inscriptions have worn off with handling and age. I believe it is also connected with my grandfather but I'm not sure. The only thing I can make out is a stamped serial number 2304726 but I've no idead what this means.

I'd love to learn more about these medals. Can anyone help?

Medal Research

Since my post yesterday, I've managed to do some research on the medallion or probably more correctly pendant. I've found a hallmark which shows it as Brmingham 1907. There's also a makers mark WHH which appears to be William Hair HASELER a jeweler of 8 Hylton Street Birmingham. This information rather discounts it as being anything to do with the fire service I think. Any ideas?

The Small medallion was something you wore on a watch chain which in those days was the latest fashion...could have been given to him by a Temperance, Odd fellows, church society etc

Hello Barrie,
As you can tell its been along time since Ive been on this site, with regard to the medals, he was a fireman in the Birmingham Brigade and joined 22nd October 1911, he then joined the forces in 1914. Do you still have the medals, Im a bit of a fire service follower

Richard
