That last pic of Barbara Stanwyck is nice. Her movie career lasted for 59 years from 1927 until 1964. In 1982 she was awarded an honorary Academy Award for "superlative creativity and unique contribution to the art of screen acting."

Hi Stitcher and Aidan, I was interested in the 1930's film mags, do you own them or are they just pictures of covers. If they are yours to read can you look through them to see if there is any info about a comedy film star called Leslie Fuller who was my uncle and was a big star in the thirties although nobody remembers him now. I am trying to collect any info/images about him. Thanks.

Hello Morris Dancer, these images are from a very good set of books and relate to a museum of advertisements. The pages are too large for my scanner so I do not post everything on a page. I have looked through the current book which is all about the 30s but there is no mention of a fuller on the film pages.

I think films of yester year were more make believe, which you needed during the depression, todays films tend to be more down to earth and realistic. personally I prefer the former. Have not been to cinema for years, last time was with my late Wife to see "On Golden Pond" with Kathleen Hepburn, the name of the male actor escapes me, but I believe he is no longer with us, what I call a family film. Thanks, it was worth a shot. He was a very big comedy star in his day, but went out of fashion by the forties and died in 1948 the year I was born so I never got to meet him. My uncle Jack Bates; who first met him when he and his sisters were all in a tap dance act together at Margate, used to be his chauffuer/PA. Jack's sister Nan Bates married Leslie Fuller in 1932 and one of the other sisters (Cecilia) was his secretary. Another sister Helen was a dancer too. They all appeared in his films in small parts, and Leslie leased the old Neptune studio and produced his own movies in parnership with Joe Rock for a while, but Rock went bankcrupt. Leslie continued starring in films until 1945 when his rather crude comic style had lost its appeal.

:) Thank you Aidan, I do already have these as you guessed. I put the stuff on Theatricalia as well, and you can see info about myself on Theatricalia if you search for Antonia Moss. I also put lots of photos on from shows I was in such as Blitz and Music Man and you can search for those two if your interested. I really want to find out more about the Bates family and thought that maybe there would be gossip in the film mags when Leslie married Nan in 1932 when he was getting really famous. My cousin said she thought they came from Ireland but I'm not so sure. When Leslies twin daughters were christened Gracie Fields and Renne Houston were their godmothers and here is some newsreel of them all at a party when the twins are two. The newsreel is called Caught on Camera no.105 and was filmed 28/9/1936. I hope the link works. https://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=10719
Thanks again.

Hi Everone
I thought i would include some photo's from the golden era of films. It would be nice if people could remember what films they were in.

Regards Stars
