In the early 1880s, my gg grandfather James Fiddler b1830 and his sons decided for some unknown reason to change their name. Unfortunately, they didn't all choose the same name. Thus, James Fiddler became James Fielder for a while before reverting to Fiddler.
His son George Augustus became George Fielder
His son Joseph became Joseph Field before reverting to Fiddler.
His son James Lemuel Fiddler stuck with Fiddler.
His son William Alfred became John Hardinge Fiddler.
His son Arthur Moses became Arthur Fielder (and later emigrated to Canada).
His son Francis (my g grandfather) became Francis Fielding.
All of them lived in Aston, Lozells, Nechells.
James Snr lived in Vaughton Street, along with Joseph.
George moved to King Edward Rd and then City Road, Edgbaston.
James Lemuel lived in Rea St, while his son (also James) lived in and around Skinner Lane.
John Hardinge lived in Kelynge St and then Richmond Park Oulton, Solihull.
Francis lived in Wilton Street and then Summerfield Place, Anglesey St.
All of them were involved in the metal industries, particularly brass. James Snr was a steam engine maker.
As you can imagine, all this lot took quite a bit of sorting out. Any information on the family, particularly workplaces, would be much appreciated.
