Featherstone Nursery School

sss65

proper brummie kid
I am trying to get more information about the history of our Nursery school. I know something about its connection to Erdington Cottage homes but trying to determine when it became a Nursery school. Also if anyone is a past pupil we would love to hear from you and to see any photos from the past. We are undertaking a project to find out the history of all the 28 remaining Nursery Schools in Birmingham so would be grateful for any info or memories. Thank you.

Do you know how it came by it's name, would love to add that fact to my Research into the Featherstone names.

Sorry don't know that yet. I am hoping to get a reply here with more background information??? Anyone??

I thought maybe it was in a Road called Featherstone, there are Featherstone families I know of with money who lived in Erdington, and of course Packwood house, although they spelt it Fetherston.

I went to the Cottage Homes Nursery School in the early '50's which you are now at.My family lived in Milverton Road.I remember being there all day.
The cleaning lady was Ivy Roberts,my aunt who lived in South Road.Having Dinner at the school, one of the dinner ladies was Dyllis Reynolds who lived in Watt Road. Both have passed.
After dinner we were put on stretchers to sleep wether we wanted to or not.One day I got up and went outside, for which I got spanked by the teacher who told my mother who also punished me for disobeying a teacher.
I still enjoyed my time there.School 003.jpgSchool 003.jpg I'm the dark haired girl on the teachers right.
Don't remember any other names.Taken about 1954.
