Fascinating Insight into 19th Century Life in Britain

Amazing photo's thanks for the link oldMohawk. A real insight into life at that time...wonderful.

Only thing is the pictures online are not all the same as the pictures in the paper, which unfortunatly i did not keep as i assumed they would be online. The one in the paper i liked best was of cloths sellers in the market

Apparently there are 300 glass negatives. The one I like is the little cordial seller - hope she sold some.
Also in a shop window adverts for products which may have faded away.

Although some of the photos are the same as in the link from post #1 there are six extra photos in the link from the image below.
If you want to see a them - click on the image below...

Agree absolutely fascinating! There are some excellent unposed views amongst the photos. Love the use of light too e.g. the way the stall selling bacon shows the joints of meat highlighted and how all the features of the buildings show up so clearly. Thanks for posting. Viv.

Fascinating, thanks, old Mohawk.

What never ceases to amaze me is the quality and definition of some of these old images. With the help of a scanner, Photoshop etc. it's incredible what magnification can bring out, even from a small print. But if you can go back a stage and look at the original negatives, the amount of information - often in the background - which is revealed can be mind-boggling.

Chris
