Family History Software

I have finally decided after a good few years to transfer all my family history research from analogue to digital.

Would anyone have any suggestions on what i might look for in terms of software to facilitate this task.

I had this conundrum a couple of years ago. I went with Excel in the end as it was something I was familiar with at work before retirement. Plus it's easy to email to family members who may be interested or add to it.

All the main genealogy - Ancestry, findmypast etc - allow you to create a family tree for free (registration required). I've created trees on a few and they all have good and bad points. No harm in having a try and seeing which you prefer.

Eric, I think if it works for you, go for it! I have found if I am comfortable with a software I do a better job.

If you are using a windows pc then I have found https://www.ahnenblatt.com/ahnenblatt-for-free/ really good. You can also run it on a USD stick to take it with you. This is free although you can buy a more powerful version I have found this perfectly adequate.
