Does anyone know where (if at all) Ernest Smith was a master fruiterer? At the time he was living at great russell street... not sure where to go with this info?

he was listed as a master fruiterer in 1908 when his first son was born and again in 1914 just before the outbreak of ww1...

Hi llamafarmer,

There is an Ernest Smith listed in Kelly's 1913 Directory at 208 Great Russell Street. Listed as a Greengrocer so he must have lived at or close to his shop. I don't know if that is the same address that you have.

Phil

In 1908 no 208 was a fried fish shop and there was no Ernest smith greengrocer listed.
In 1912 no 208 was not listed , but there was an Ernest Smith greengrocer at 163 church Lane smethwick.
In 1921 no 208 was still a greengrocer, but under a Joseph Hodges.
In1921 there was a Ernest Smith, greengrocer at 33 Wheeler St
In 1932 there is an Ernest William smith, greengrocer at 70 Bell Barn road and a Ernest John Smith, greengrocer at 27 High St Saltley. Probably both of these are not related.

Im confused... was 208 listed as a greengrocers in 1913 only? he joined up in 1914 and by 1921 is listed on a birth certificate as a general hawker...

I can only list the Kellys that I have, which for that period are 1904,1908,1912,1913,1921,1932. No 208 was a greengrocers under Ernest only in 1913, but was a greengrocer under someone else in 1921,Ernest smith isn't a very uncommon name, so the other entries to an Ernest smith in 1912 and 1921 might ot might not refer to otther people
