Brummie yes ! Novice no !
The 'then' pictures are taken from old postcards, the 'now' pictures taken from Google Streetview.
The older of the pictures dates from 1911 .

Yeah, I went to Stockland Green school between 1960 and 1966, and we were always in that shop at lunchtimes, but couldn't remember exactly where it was. Seeing the photo reminded me.
 
There were 3 schools on that campus. Marsh Hill Boys Technical, Stockland Green Secondry Modern and Marsh Hill Girls Technical. The only entrance allowed for the Boys' School was Hampton Road, the Girls School entrance was at the top of Marsh Hill and the Secondry Modern entrance was further up Slade Road towards Stockland Green.
