Emmigration to Canada/Canadian immigration records

Hi,

I have discovered that my great great grandmother and two of her daughters and their husbands emmigrated to Canada between 1909 and 1915. At least one daughter ended up in Southampton, Bruce County, Ontaria. Does anyone know what the attraction was with Canada for working class brummies, other than a new start. The matriarch had been a shopkeeper and her daughters/husbands were piano makers/workers according to the 1901 census. So, there is no obviuos reason why they chose Canada.

Secondly, can anyone recommend any good internet respources for Canadian records, such as immigration between 1910 - 1920.

There is quite a lot of information on the subject you are interested in, in chapter 5 THE CHILDRENS EMIGRATION HOMES by VALERIE HART.

Thought "I will take a look" and was blown away by the information this site has to offer, so much so that it may be possible that I have found an ancestor of mine, will be checking records tonight.

BUT

also on this site looking at the commonwealth graves section I found this notice ( I hope I am doing right by copy/paste this section but if I do not how will those concerned find out.

Signalman John Charles Baker, 40254, Died 14 February 1940
Private Frederick Arthur Woodcock, 286, Died 3 February 1918
