I am trying to get together the history of Nurse Charlotte Elkington. Charlotte, was I believe the daughter of Dr. George Elkington of 1, Frederick Road, Edgbaston where he finally became a Surgeon. He was born at Princethorpe, a family home for several generations.

Charlotte was at the St. Thomas's Hospital School of Nursing in London founded and run by Florence Nightingale. She finally moved to Queen's Hospital in Birmingham in the late 1890s, where she was a Sister in charge.

Could anyone tell me anything about the Queen Hospital in Birmingham about 1900 and any other useful information on Charlotte.

She died aged 74 in Suffolk in 1927

Charlotte was the daughter of George Elkington and Hannah Robinson who married 1833 St Martins Birmingham.
Charlotte was at home ,1 frederick street,Edgbaston on the 1861/1871/1881 census so she must have started nursing late in life as she has no occupation on the original copies.
1891 she is in London as a sister at St thomas
1901 as Superintenant of Nursing at Queens Birmingham.

Why has my message been tagged onto this one, it has no relevance.

Sorry Judy if my reply was a little off thread, but you mentioned a Robinson in your family, and another member asked whether their Robinson could be connected to yours and we did stray somewhat.

I have no idea if this is any of your robinsons but her name was Hannah Robin son, born in 1804 and married about 1834 to Dr. George Elkington who practised in 1 Federick Street for many years.

She was the mother of the abover nurse. I know nothing else about her I am afraid..
