And I certainly hope that they have done their homework regarding the infrastructure for those high density towers!

Wasn't that the Tatler Lyn? Or are they both the same? I only went once with my brother while Mom was at the court getting probate for Dad in 1964. Obviously it doesn't have good memories.

Ectric cinema became the Tatler in 1937

Things seem to be still up in the air concerning the cinema

Hi all, am doing something about the history of the electric cinema and was wondering if anyone knows what was the first film shown in 1909 when it opened and what was the very last film to end the current life of this fine place in 2024?

Welcome to the forum, Brian!
The first film to be shown at The Electric Theatre as it was known, was silent with piano accompaniment. I don't know what the film was or if anyone took a note, but if you have access to a good library or the BFI Wikipedia gives some sources:
The Era, Film Gossip and Notices, 22 January 1910, Kinematograph & Lantern Weekly, 7 July 1910, and The Rinking World & Picture Theatre News, 8 January 1910.

Opening was 27 Dec 1909 and I would expect a programme of short films.
Good luck!

Back to 1909, Jean Stanton suggests in her brief history online:
A Box of Chocolates, The Cabbage and Making Plate Glass

I guess that the films mentioned were documentary shorts?
650 films were made in Britain in 1909 and mostly documentaries. http://www.screenonline.org.uk/film/id/1380106/index.html
Good luck in discovering what was shown and perhaps you could post a version of your conclusions here. The Electric is much loved.
I’ll know more after a meeting Monday hopefully but it may be a while before I complete anything!
