Hi, I can't seem to find any info about a company with an office at 3 Warwick Passage in 1960. A friend of mine is restoring a small van registered to that address in April 1960, which has SEC'S OFFICE E.B.DAWSON Ltd BIRMINGHAM on the door. If anyone can shed any light on what they did it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Cal

I've been informed through another forum (thanks) that they were wholesale grocers (listed in Kelly's Directory 1956) and subsequently found their liquidation in May '63.

In the early 60's E.B.Dawson had a grocery shop at 100, High Street, Kings Heath.

Thanks for that, I'm guessing you may be the Colin behind the fascinating B14 website? I'm therefore assuming that you'd have said if it featured in any old pics so won't spend time searching elsewhere on-line if that's the case.

Cheers,

Cal, Yes, thats me for my sins, drove past there today it's recently became a Indian Restaurant, (must be worth a try sometime). I'm sorry I cannot find any photos of the shop, there are a number of images both side of the shop but non where it can be seen. In 1969 it was listed as a Ten Acres & Stirchley Co-operative Society (TASCOS) Butchers.

Colin, grateful for your interest, I think my friend who's renovating the van has got enough info, but there are a lot more connections to Brum for me so I'm still curious to see what else I can piece together.

Although my immediate family headed south when I was 4 (from Shirley c1963/4) I've still got wider family in and around Brum, and my wife's family moved from Rubery to Brandwood Grove around the mid 60's, so we're regularly up in Kings Heath, particularly as my wife, Ruth, has been based in Brum for the past 5 years for work. Anyway, it seems I've got a good excuse to try the Indian Restaurant!

I'll be interested to see what response your website provokes in Ruth's parents - I imagine there'll be a few tales unleashed...!

All the best,
Cal
