My Grandads young brother Gilbert died on the Coventry Rd, Small Heath on his way home from school 16th July 1916.......story has it that he was knocked over by a horse & cart. My question is would this sort of thing make the local newspaper & if so how could I find out more?? I have no idea if there was a local paper for Small Heath or what the paper for Brum was in those days. I suppose I'm just wishful thinking that there may be a very slim chance it did make it to a paper & then I could find out more about the incident. Anyone got any views/ideas where I can find out?? Ta ever so.
The Main Birmingham Library has microfilms of Aris's Birmingham Gazette
which was a main Birmingham newspaper from the late l7th century until 1956 when it was taken over by the Birmingham Post. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Gazette
Thanks jennyann. I doubt it actually made the newspapaer at all but I did wonder if there was a sort of Small Heath paper that might have existed around that time. I'll have to venture in to Central next time I make it down to Brum (I always find them quite intimidating up on 6th floor to be honest & am quite hesitant to ask for any informtion in case they bite!!lol). Cheers.
