Denton Grove, Stechford

Is Norton Crescent near to Denton Grove?, i have a friend who lived the Crescent in the 1940`s. Len.

Hi Len. No mate, Norton Crescent was up your end by Alston Rd School. Denton was past the white bridge on Bordesley Green East after the Ritz going towards Yardley Church. A lot of my mates and rellies lived in Norton Crescent though.

Hello Dennis,
I have just found this post in a search for Pedlingham and I have really enjoyed reading it. I had the great pleasure of meeting Lily Pedlingham ( and sadly attending her funeral ), through contact with her Son, who helped me greatly when I started researching our Tree, the family are distant "cousins" of mine and lovely people.
I wonder if you could tell me if Lily is on the photograph and where about ? and would you mind if I copy the photo's for use in my family Tree ?
Incidentally, my Nan Jones (nee Taylor), lived at 86 Cattell Road in 1911, she was born in Greenway Street in 1905.
Thanks for a great post....
Regards Lynne.

P.S.....Hi Len :)

Glad to be of help, of course you can use the photo Lindyloo. It was in Nan's collection when she died. Lily was a character alright, and not one to be trifled with. Vic her husband was a railway guard I think. Very quiet. Her son Robert was my first and greatest pal. Still play golf with him now! Here is a pic of him and me and his sister Diane, plus my older aunty June and my young cousin, also June. You will note my sartorial elegance immediately. I think it was handed down from the Boer War...as you did in them days (pre Armani).

Lily is third row down, third from the left. Nan is further along with the 20s Cloche hat. A right flapper!

Thank you Dennis, it is most appreciated. I think you are right about Vic's occupation and of course it is Robert (Bob) that helped me. How wonderful that you are still great friends. I havent seen him for a while. I had to look up Cloche Hat !!! is your Nan the lady on the same row with the young lads hands on her shoulders ?
The attached photo is from a Pedlingham Reunion that Bob and I organised some years ago, Im sure you will recognise some people on it. Im the one in the "Russell" top.
Thanks for the photo of you and Bob, again greatly appreciated and you looked just fine !!!

Yes, that's my nan and the lad behind with his hands on her shoulders is my dad. Lovely pic of Rob and and Lily. Both had the hardest of lives imaginable by todays standards, but both lived to get the telegram from Her Majesty.

Lily Nash was my grandmother and Bob is my uncle... The '48 picture is fantastic and brings back many happy memories of spending summer days playing in the grove and park. One day I'll manage to get Uncle Rob to put the family tree up on the web.

Hi Harborne Blue,
Did you spot your Uncle Rob, or Bob as I know him, in the photo 3 posts before yours ?
Just thought you might like to know that the family tree is already online. Your Uncle helped me to get going when I started researching the tree years ago...and then kind of left me to it :)
If you would like to see the tree you can either send me a private message or ask Bob for my email address and contact me that way.
Hope your parents are keeping well (they are on the photo to !!) Say hi to them for me please.
Lynne

Hi Dennis,
Re Denton Grove,
Did you ever know a family called Workman. I think they lived at no. 2. They all went to Stechford Primary and the oldest 3 matched in age to my siblings and me.

They are not on your list on a previous post - probably before their time.
