Looking for any records showing any person in Birmingham by the name of Dehaney/Dehany/Duhaney/De Haney please.
I have census and wedding certs saying this family came from Birmingham, but I can find no records in for them existing there.
Any help appreciated!
Thank you
Neil

Hi Neil, Are you looking for Dehaney's in Birmingham now ? if you go to 192.com and put Dehaney and Birmingham in the search box it brings up results (you have to pay to get the full results )..sorry I cant help further at the moment, I'm off to work

You will have to give full name and ages for more help. The name sounds Irish a lot of Irish immigrants came to Birmingham to build the canals.

Hi Wendy,

The names are
Charles Dehaney born circa 1830
and his children,
David Dehaney born Dec 1853 (according to his military records 1872)
and Louisa Agnes Dehaney born 1857 (according to census records after 1881.)

None of their births appear on BDM records. I have checked common mis-spellings too. (Dehany, De Haney, Delaney, Dahany.)

The children were coloured, half white and half Jamacian. We assume they are related to the sugar plantation owners from Jamacia.

I can find no actual records of them prior to David's enlistment in january 1872.

David later moved to Colchester and Louisa married Henry Seavers and moved to Farnham Surrey.

Thank you

A difficult one Charles would not have a birth cert as he was born before registration. If he was of Irish decent he could have been Catholic if so the record would probably be at St Chads. I have searched several records for David's birth record with no luck. Maybe others would like a challenge or other suggestions.

Although David Dehaney says he was born in Birmingham and his sister Louisa also says that she was born Birmingham on the 1881 census, in 1891 she says she was born Kingston, Surrey: 1901 America (British Subject): 1911 New York, America ?? good luck in your search

Thanks Wendy, on his military papers he says that he was born in St John's Birmingham. He wasn't a Catholic, he was C of E.
Thanks for you help.

Only a couple more bits of information that I can add is that Charles Dehaney is said to have been an engineer and a sailor. No naval records for him on the National Archives site or findmypast.

Thank you

Very odd, sometimes they did stretch the truth see post #7. Maybe he was on the coal ships to America I found an elusive navy man there. Good luck with your search.
