Does anyone have any information on George Dawson born 1885 Birmingham, St. George. Married Leah Taylor 1909.
Enlisted in Royal Warks Regt. August 1915 then transferred to 4th Special Brigade Royal Engineers. He went to France March 1916 and was killed in action June 28th 1916. He is buried in France.
Are there any WW1 memorials in Birmingham with his name on.
His address when enlisting was 30 High Street, Deritend although his wife and 2 children (Leah and Thomas) were living at 3/20 College Street, Spring Hill. At the time of his death they had moved to 95 James Turner Street, Winson Green.
Sometime between the middle of 1916 and 1929 she and the children moved to Loughborough, Leicestershire.
Does anyone know the reason why she would go to Loughborough.
I cant find anything that suggests she remarried before moving.

I would be grateful for any information

Re: George Dawson KIA WW1

The 1915 kellys directory (which refers to 1914) lists 30 high st, deritend as being thomas Dawson, Ladder ma. Presumably this means ladder maker, and thomas would be a relative presumably

Thanks John
Unfortunately i already have the info you kindly offered and yes the pictures if Bully-Grenay cemetary are very good. I am hoping to visit later in the year.
I am really now trying to discover if there are any ww1 memorials in Birmingham with his name on and what happened to his wife and 2 children between the period of his death and them turning up in Loughborough, Leics., around 1929. His son Thomas was a merchant navy officer lost at sea in 1941 when his ship was bombed whilst part of a convoy.

Best wishes
Mick :)
