Davies Samson

Dolphie

master brummie
I'm trying to find the whereabouts of this man in the 1881 census & so far have drawn a blank. I'm searching on behalf of a friend, it was her Grandfather.
Samson Davies was born in 1867, in Wednesbury/Sedgley, Staffs...his father was Charles Davies.
I've found him in 1891 & 1901 on Ancestry, but not in 1871 & 1881 (altho there is one on Ancestry for 1881 Samson born in Wales)........anyone got any suggestions where to look for him?? There are only a few thousand Davies to sift thru huh???:D He wed Alice Dawes/Dores in 1889 in Coseley.

Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks in advance.

The Other one Of The Davies,s Was In The Next Village Whom Was A Davieis
And That Was MERTHY Tidfel Which Was Only down the road
So If You Want To Recheck The Welsh Cenus Again You Might Just

Dolphie, apart from the one in Wales that you found, these were the only others that I could find that came close:

1881 Census

Dwelling 7 Norfolk St
Census Place Stoke Upon Trent, Stafford, England
Household:
Name...................Relation Status..Gender..Age....Birthplace.............Occupation
Sampson GOODWIN Head .....W..... Male .. 67.... Mottershall, Stafford,....Carter
Sampson DAVIS.....GrandSon ..S......Male .. 14..... Shelton... Stafford..Brick Maker

and this chap who's with his father Enoch:

Sampson W. DAVIS Age13
Male Birth Year<1868>
Birthplace Frampton On Severn, Gloucester
Occupation Farm Laborer
Marital Status S
Head of Household Enoch DAVIS
Relation Son
Dwelling Froombridge
Census PlaceFrampton On Severn, Gloucester, England.

The first one could be him if his mother's maiden name was Goodwin.
The other thing is he could have been transcribed wrong, or the name spelt phonically e.g: Samuel and as above with Sampson Davis.

Pom

1871 census may be of help.
The writing is very scrappy ,the address is in Shelton and the first Letter is C it could be chatham Street which is the next street to Norfolk street(1881)
The Christian names are almost illegible but the people who indexed the records have ' had a go'
Head. Sail? Goodwin age 60 b. Stone, Carter and small shopkeeper
Saml? age 21 son unmarried
Harriet Davis age 30 daughter widow
Jas? age 3 grandson

All the male names start with the same letter which is obviously 'S'.

The age of the father Sampson Goodwin would appear to fit in with death of Sampson Goodwin 1885 Stoke on trent age 74.

The place of birth in 1881 must be Moddershall which is near Stone.

1861
28 Heather street,Longton
Samuel Goodwin age 51 ,widower,b. Stone, Carter
Mary ann age 23 daughter
Harriet age 20 daughter
Emily 16 daughter
Sampson age 12 son.

Thanks so much for your efforts Astonian, Pomgolian & Alberta.......its so vexing isn't it when you 'lose' a person (its as if they went out of their way to be awkward & remain 'hidden'!!:D).
This Samson (ok...could have been Samuel, tired that one as well) was a miner (coal) & his father was definitely Charles.

I'll keep on looking, thanks for trying...its much appreciated.:)
