Dance school

Brum Burgin

knowlegable brummie
When I worked in Navigation st in the late 50's there used to be a garage just along from us and above was a ballroom dance school. Can anyone remember what the garage was called and also the dance school?
While I'm on,can you remember Chetwyns gents outfitters on the corner of Navigation st and Hill st.I bought a brill shirt from there when I was 17(so I thought). It was bright yellow and did up at the neck with a toggle.I thought it would be a real bird puller but I can't ever remember it working, still,I felt good in it.

I think the ballroom was Laura Dixons, which later became the Whisky agogo, was the Garage Central Motors.

My mom and dad met there, dad winked at mom over the shoulder of the girl he was dancing with - good job things were more civilised then or there could have been allsorts of trouble lol
There were 2 floors and it was 6d for the ground and 9d for upstairs, so mom tells me.
They would have been going there around 1955, they married in 1958 and all their friends used to go there with them - did you go too?

What a great memory that is Sistersue61.No I never went there,I just knew it was there as I worked just a bit further along Navigation St. at a Typewriter shop, and I was living at West Heath so I didn't hang around that long once work was over, but it always seemed a busy place, people coming and going all the time.
