Dadley and Palmer Hotel, Temple Row

Thomas Dadley and Fielding Palmer had this hotel from 1785 until 1794. It is rarely described as Dadley and Palmer's hotel, but simply the Hotel, Temple Row. It was built in the 1770s. The building, contents and associated buildings such as outbuildings, new stables and double coach house were all sold off in 1794.

I have made the assumption that this is the hotel, which, in 1795, was taken over by William Styles, who seems to have refitted the hotel in a 'commodious manner'. If it is the same, its later history (under the name of the Olde Royal) is covered by this thread here : https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/threads/ye-olde-royal-temple-row.7012/#post-818137

There is also this cutting from 1894, selling property of Dadley and Palmer which is next to the hotel and has frontage on Bull St. this must mean the hotel is close to the Bull St end of Tample Row,, which would correlate to it being the same site as the Royal

Thanks, Mike. I'm also interested to know what it was before Dadley and Palmer's hotel. I've seen references in the 1770s made to 'the Hotel in this town'. This seems to have been the only hotel at the time.

An extract from:

The Hotel was erected in 1772 by tontine subscription and was the first building in Birmingham to adopt the French styling of hotel. The term was only just coming into use at this time, and it was used to promote what was basically an inn as a more fashionable and refined place to stay. The Hotel provided accommodation for travellers to Birmingham, food and also had a fine assembly room attached which was enlarged in 1804.*
